R+B star Alicia Keys has vowed never to spend her vast fortune frivolously, because she is terrified of returning to her poor roots.

The FALLIN' singer grew up in a disadvantaged area of New York City - dubbed Hell's Kitchen because of raging local tensions - and is determined never to suffer again.

And she is especially wary of people looking to exploit her wealth.

She says, "I want to know what is going on with my life. Be conscious of my business, of my money, where it's going, how it is being spent.

"I don't give a damn if people hate me. I'm never going to be one of those damn stories of someone who had all this and ended up with zero because so many people took advantage of them."
