Kanye Leads Grammy Nominations
Rap newcomer KANYE WEST is celebrating today (07DEC04) after leading the nominations for next year's (05) GRAMMY AWARDS with 10 nods.
The COLLEGE DROPOUT star will compete for the Best New Artist, Rap Album, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Rap Song (JESUS WALKS) honours among other awards at the 47th annual prize giving in Los Angeles on 17 February (05).
West's nominations are a minor shock as hip-hop hunk USHER, who has spent more than half of 2004 at the top of the US singles charts, was expected to be named king of the Grammys when the nominations were handed out this morning.
Usher has tied with his MY BOO collaborator ALICIA KEYS with eight nominations, while late soul great RAY CHARLES landed seven and punk stars GREEN DAY have six.
The prestigious Album of the Year prize will be a hotly contested fight between West (The College Dropout), Charles (GENIUS LOVES COMPANY), Green Day (AMERICAN IDIOT), Keys (THE DIARY OF ALICIA KEYS) and Usher (CONFESSIONS).
Usher's YEAH! is up for Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, as well as Best R+B Song. The singer will also compete for Best Male R+B Vocal Performance and Best R+B Song honours for his BURN single.07/12/2004 21:12
