Kaiser Chiefs Amazed Not To Win Hometown Award
KAISER CHIEFS were "gutted" not to be voted Rock Band Of The Year at a music awards show in their hometown of Leeds, England, last week (ends06JAN05) - especially when the prize went to an up-and-coming group.
The I PREDICT A RIOT stars thought their swift ascent in 2005 guaranteed them the award, but were left mortified when it was presented to newcomers ¡FORWARD RUSSIA!.
Singer RICK WILSON says, "We were gutted at being snubbed for Rock Band Of The Year at the Leeds Music Awards.
"Nick (HODGSON, drummer) and PEANUT (NICK BAINES, keyboardist) turned up thinking we were a dead cert to win and then it bloody went to ¡Forward Russia! They quickly left after that and tried not to catch anyone's eye. We thought, 'Come on, we opened Live 8 in America.'
"I don't hold grudges and have nothing against the people of Leeds but we did really well last year (05) and a pat on the back would have been nice."
