JOY DIVISION are to record new material for the biopic of their late bandmate IAN CURTIS, over 25 years after the British band's demise.
The LOVE WILL TEAR UP APART group split after frontman Curtis, at just 23, hanged himself in his Macclesfield, England, home in 1980.
After years of planning a film on his life, Curtis' widow DEBORAH has finally agreed to a script proposal and filming is expected to begin next year (06).
Joy Division bassist PETER HOOK says, "We were asked to do the soundtrack to the film which I thought was a f**king great idea, for Joy Division to do the music for a Joy Division film because we've never really done a soundtrack before. The soundtrack could include new stuff.
"Basically ANTON (CORBIJN, director) wants to use certain songs by Joy Division so that each song becomes a video.
"Every time we get accolades for Joy Division it makes (Ian's suicide) sadder, especially with the film. Working on the film has made the whole thing seem more poignant."
Hook and his surviving Joy Division bandmates formed NEW ORDER after Curtis' death, with GILLIAN GILBERT as frontman.
