Jay-Z Rejects Top Def Jam Job
Superstar rapper JAY-Z has turned down the job of president at hip-hop record label DEF JAM.
The company's boss ANTONIO 'LA' REID begged BEYONCE KNOWLES' boyfriend to replace outgoing executive KEVIN LILES but Jay-Z - who retired as a recording artist last year (03) - has so far refused to accept the post, although some believe he may change his mind.
It is reported Reid's offer to Jay-Z - whose own ROC-A-FELLA RECORDS is run as a joint venture with Def Jam - were made to prevent him from joining up with LYOR COHEN's WARNER MUSIC GROUP.
A source tells American news website PAGESIX.COM, "This was LA's attempt to keep him so he doesn't go with Lyor."
However an Island Def Jam spokeswoman has denied Jay-Z was offered a position with the company and says, "It's absolutely not true".
Meanwhile Jay-Z's partnership with DAMON DASH on Roc-A-Fella is allegedly still on rocky ground - with sources predicting they may go their separate ways.02/08/2004 17:29
