Jaxx Slam America's Homophobic Attitude To House
British dance duo BASEMENT JAXX were shocked by their GRAMMY win on Sunday (13FEB05), because of America's "homophobic" attitude to house music.
The London DJs - comprising SIMON RATCLIFFE and FELIX BUXTON - picked up the Best Electronic/Dance Album gong for KISH KASH at the star-studded bash in Los Angeles.
Ratcliffe says, "It's nice to be recognised in America because dance music hasn't figured much in American consciousness for a long time.
"American music has inspired us for years - we started because we wanted to be like American DJs and producers, although that's still very underground.
"I think there's a bit of a homophobic/gay thing here with house music which is a shame, but for us in England, we're like 'Whatever, it's good music, so it's cool.'"14/02/2005 21:42
