Iron Butterfly Guitarist Dies

Former IRON BUTTERFLY guitarist ERIK BRAUNN has died - he was 52.

The American axeman - who shot to fame playing on the band's 17-minute opus IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA - passed away on Friday night (25JUL03) from heart failure.

Braunn reunited with his former bandmates for a few performances after he left the group in 1969 but was left disappointed by a lack of respect for their artistic contribution.

He said, "Our sound paved the way for all the heavy metal bands that are popular today. Yet our records rarely get played, and most people regard us as a joke."

I was sorry to hear the sad news.My condolences to Erik's family and the band.Had discovered Iron Butterfly in 1986 when someone living in the same house as me played me some.May the rest of the band live long, enjoy good health, and continue to bless the world with their good music.
