Hollywood Lines Up Tv Quiz Scam Movie
Hollywood bosses are targetting HUGH GRANT and CATHERINE ZETA-JONES for a big screen version of the real-life scam on British TV quiz WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?.
Tinseltown studios are poised for a bidding war for the rights to make a film based on contestants MAJOR CHARLES INGRAM and TECWEN WHITTOCK, who were found guilty of cheating their way to the top prize on the British version of the globally popular show.
On Monday (07APR03), London's SOUTHWARK CROWN COURT found University lecturer Whittock guilty of using "coded coughs" to signal the right answers to Ingram.
According to Britain's DAILY STAR newspaper, a Hollywood insider says the story has "all the ingredients of a blockbuster".
He adds, "The story will certainly be snapped up by one of the big studios. It has the potential to be a big hit, with scandal, deceit and greed.
"But the film could be given a US spin as the show has been popular there. Or it could be that (host of the British show) CHRIS TARRANT is asked to appear himself."
The tabloid reports that Hugh Grant, Catherine Zeta-Jones and STUART LITTLE star HUGH LAURIE are expected to be among the contenders for the lead roles.
