Hoffman's Capote Battle
PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN has branded his screen alter ego TRUMAN CAPOTE an enigma, despite winning a Best Actor BAFTA last night (19FEB06) for his portrayal of the author.
CAPOTE is tipped for five Oscar wins next month (MAR06), including another acting accolade for Hoffman's performance, but the star insists his role was a huge challenge.
And he admits that capturing the BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S writer on set often left him extremely frustrated.
He says, "When you're playing a character, I think you have to leave the doors open as long as possible about them, try to put judgment aside.
"Pretty much everything is nuanced. Capote for sure - he's incredibly elusive, and it's kind of maddening playing him because he was elusive."
