Hermes Bosses Apologise To Oprah

Bosses at Paris, France's Hermes store have been forced to apologise to talk show queen OPRAH WINFREY after refusing to let her into their posh store last week (14JUN05).

Winfrey was turned away when she turned up at the shop to buy a gift for pal TINA TURNER, because staff were taking part in an after-hours public relations event inside.

In a statement released yesterday (22JUN05), Hermes bosses said, "Hermes regrets not having been able to accommodate Ms Winfrey and her team and to provide her with the service and care that Hermes strives to provide to each and every one of its customers worldwide.

"Hermes apologises for any offence taken, due to such circumstances."

Why is Oprah upset?During my life, I have shown up at many businesses after their regular hours of operation and to my recollection none have ever allowed me to enter in order to do my shopping. This seems a bit absurd to me.... Was there a prior arrangement to Oprah that the store did not honor?

Hey, I'm a business student in the US. If a customer, spent nearly $300,000 in my store and listed items from my store on their website, which generates millions of hits a day, and then for me the business owner to snub this customer. As a customer-You bet I would have a problem with it. Most high end stores would not even carry 13 birkin bags. These bags would have to be on special order-Oprah bought 13 for friends.

I am sure that all at Hermes have lost a lot of sleep over the loss of one of their "best customers". I am sure that the loss of free advertising Hermes would have received from plugs on your "show" will cause all the poor folks that watch your "show" to stop spending their millions in the store.Oprah, grow up and get over it.

Regardless of whether some people think that Hermes had a right to refuse entry to The Divine Ms. O, I think that, as a business who regulary cater to the very rich and the ultra wealthy, Hermes should know better than to insult someone who is one of their best customers; especially one with as many influential friends as Ophrah Winfrey. Strictly from a financial perspective, that is just not good business. As Julia Robert's character in "Pretty Woman" said--'Big mistake!'

First, the store was not closed they were having an event. However most finer stores like 100% of the time, let celebrities and rich shop during closes hours, without the crowd. That is a reality, most celeb preferr to shop in peace. Bad move for Hermes!

OPRAH spelt backwards does not spell GOD, so when it's closing time at a store and you can't get in, you are just like the rest of us Oprah...you get the Sears security gates clinking across your disappointed expression and you get to walk 15min to the mall exit and go home. WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!

Well it was understood that they make exceptions for celebritys. This isn't a Joe Smoe forgot his keys after hours incedent. I'm not one to fight for the extra privalleges of celebritys but, she had a reason to think that she would be let in after hours. If they would let in other celbrities then why not her? The whole "North African Gang" thing really put a crinkle in this whole thing because now they have mistaken her for a gang member which just put the fuel on the fire.Playing Devils advocate, If you focus on race and racism then you will see it in life. I remember on the show how Oprah tried to bring up the issue of race with Tom Cruise and his Son who is of African descent. I think she slipped the question in just to show the audience that Cruise had a "Black" child to promote adoption of all races of children (which was a good thing to do). However, you could see that it was an issue with her.The bottomline is that looking at things in a Black and White (no pun intended) as Oprah being right or wrong just isn't really right. No Partison opinion (liberal or conservative) is right for every occasion and it just is really bad when every time and issue like this comes up Americans take such a hard partisan stance without really looking at the issue itself.
