Healy Praises Impact Charity Projects Have On African Poor
TRAVIS singer FRAN HEALY is amazed at the impact cash raised by last year's (04) charity single DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? has had on poverty-stricken Africa - and calls on people all over the world to support this weekend's (02JUL05) LIVE 8 concerts.
The WHY DOES IT ALWAYS RAIN ON ME star is currently visiting the small African village of Arroyo in South Sudan where $10,800 (GBP6,000) water wells are being installed to provide locals with safe drinking water.
Healy, who is also an ambassador for charity Save The Children, says, "Arroyo is amazing, like stepping back in time. Seeing the difference Band Aid projects have made to these fantastic people is what the record was all about.
"If we can do all that spending a couple of quid on a record, what can leaders of rich countries sitting at the G8 do while sipping champagne in their Armani suits?"
Healy was the first white man to visit the village for 87 years.27/06/2005 02:00
