Hayes Reveals Himself Emotionally On New Album

Former Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes has dug deep emotionally for his latest album - after going into therapy.

The TRULY MADLY DEEPLY singer, 32, visited a psychiatrist after the release of his first solo disc and he's now made a deeply personal follow-up album THE TENSION AND THE SPARK - which he considered releasing under an alias due to its soul-searching nature.

Australian Hayes explains, "It sounds very LA but I had lots of therapy. I analysed where I'd come from, my past, my childhood.

"I looked at experiences I've had in my job. I was paying the guy $100 (GBP55.5) a week to sit on the couch and talk about my life.

"I thought I'd have to put it (The Tension and the Spark) out under an assumed name, like Damon Albarn did with Gorillaz. I joked it could have been called Freudian because it's self analytical, but not so much that the average person can't relate to it.

"I have been blessed and cursed with the ability to really express myself. I'm a very sensitive and emotionally articulate person.

"Making this album I went into the back of my mind and was almost apologising for it."

I can associate with how Darren felt and how his life was as a child growing up the way he did. I heard the album in an Australian music first listening party in Brisbane and I cried almost the whole way thru. In my eyes, Darren is my hero, he is such a strong person and a very brave man to be able to open up and fight his demons the way he has. Darren, if you ever get to read these comments, stay gold hunny and catch you next time you are over my way in Oz.
