Harry Potter Finds Fame Tough

HARRY POTTER actor DANIEL RADCLIFFE hates the fame that comes with playing the massively successful boy wizard.

The teenage star, 14, has played the star pupil at HOGWARTS since HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE in 2001, and recently began filming the fourth installment of JK ROWLING's book adaptation HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

However, Radcliffe admits he is reluctant celebrity and hates the attentions he receives from fans and the press.

He says, "I'm glad I don't have to roam the streets of New York in disguise. I'd stay in my hotel if I had to do something like that. I would hate it.

"When the first two films came out, I had to have bodyguards because I created such a ruckus everywhere I went. That was absolutely no fun."

Radcliffe is set for another fame boost when HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN is released in Britain this month (31MAY04).

He worries, "I really pray The Prisoner Of Azkaban doesn't make me really famous again, because I love being completely anonymous and I've felt like that for almost two years. When I'm on the streets of a big city like New York and no-one recognises me, it reminds me that I'm just a normal teenager. And, that's all I am.

"I know how to deal with everything that goes with that. Being famous is a little different. I still don't understand how to deal with being treated like a celebrity. Being Harry Potter is just my job when I'm not at school."

Radcliffe is delighted to find when he is dressed in his usual attire, he isn't recognised.

He explains, "'Anytime I have on glasses, wear a tie or have my hair cut like Harry Potter, I absolutely get mugged. I could be in the desert and people would recognise me and think of me as Harry. It's maddening."
