Haggis Strips Bond Of Gadgets

Oscar winner Paul Haggis is currently working on the latest James Bond film Casino Royale, and is determined to make the new movie different by stripping the superspy of his fancy gadgets. The writer/director of Crash, was brought in to put the finishing touches on the screenplay by Bond regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. The latest version of the film, starring new 007 Daniel Craig, takes place when Bond initially earns his "licence to kill". Haggis tells MTV news, "It will be completely different, I think. You know, it takes James Bond from the very first IAN FLEMING book, Casino Royale, when he becomes James Bond - when he gets his 'Double 00' status, which means he has two kills, and therefore has his licence to kill. "But all the bells and whistles, all the things that Q used to give him, the gadgets, those are all gone. "So you deal with the character as an assassin and what it feels like to be an assassin. "And I ask the questions, 'Why does he treat women the way that he treats them?' "So I've either helped to re-energise this series, or I've just ruined James Bond for everybody forever."
