Goodfellas Named Greatest Movie Of All Time

Director Martin Scorsese's classic mafia drama Goodfellas has been voted the greatest movie of all time in a poll of experts by British magazine Total Film.

The 1990 movie, which stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci, beat out competition from Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, which came in second place.

Steven Spielberg's Jaws is third, with David Fincher's BRAD PITT-starring Fight Club in fourth place.

Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather: PART II is the highest placed sequel in the list at number five, while ORSON WELLES' Citizen Kane, which usually tops critics' movie polls, comes in sixth.

A spokesman for Total Film, who name their '100 Greatest Movies' in the publication's latest issue, says, "Choosing the final 100 provoked endless rows and debates but we think we've put together the definitive list."

The top 10 greatest movies are:

1. GOODFELLAS (1990) 2. VERTIGO (1958) 3. JAWS (1975) 4. FIGHT CLUB (1999) 5. THE GODFATHER: PART II (1974) 6. CITIZEN KANE (1941) 7. TOKYO STORY (1953) 8. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) 9. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy (2001/2002/2003)

10. HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940)

Goodfellas? Sure, its better than a good flick, 'but best of all time'? No way. (Runnerup Vertigo was good too, but even Hitchc**k had better than that). So what were the criteria used for their decision? Surely there's a mix of things making the decision. What is needed is the yardstick used for the measures.
