Good Vibes For 50 Cent Among Prizegiving Violence
50 CENT was the big winner at a violence-marred inaugural VIBE MUSIC AWARDS in Santa Monica, California, last night (15NOV04) after claiming three of the ceremony's prizes.
The rap star took home honours for Artist of The Year, Dopest Album (GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN') and Hottest Hook (In Da Club).
The event, hosted by QUEEN LATIFAH, also saw hip-hop couple BEYONCE KNOWLES and JAY-Z walk away with gongs - Beyonce was named Most Stylish Artist, while she and Jay-Z earned kudos for Coolest Collabo (CRAZY IN LOVE).
Jay-Z was also presented with the night's TuBig Award - an achievement prize honouring the legacy of late rappers TUPAC SHAKUR and BIGGIE SMALLS.
Meanwhile, producer and performer PHARRELL WILLIAMS claimed the Tightest Team Player award for his work with N*E*R*D and THE NEPTUNES; JOE BUDDEN took home the Next award for new artists, and MISSY ELLIOTT was honoured with the Reelest Video prize for WORK IT.
Rap pioneer RUSSELL SIMMONS was presented with the VX Award for lifetime achievement.
The evening's celebrations were marred when a fight broke out between audience members protesting DR DRE. One guest was stabbed and the proceedings were held up as security men attempted to restore order.16/11/2004 21:10
