Glitter's Lawyer: 'He'll Be Convicted'

LATEST: Disgraced British rocker GARY GLITTER will be found guilty of the sexual abuse he is accused of carrying out on two Vietnamese girls aged 10 and 11, according to his lawyer.

Glitter - real name PAUL FRANCIS GADD - will stand trial tomorrow (02MAR06) and his lawyer LE THANH KINH is convinced the verdict will go against his client.

But he hopes judges will take account of the pop star's age (61) and impose the minimum sentence of three years, which could be served in the civilian jail where he is currently being held.

KINH says, "If three years he will stay (where he is), but if longer it would be detention in a military police prison which is much harder (conditions).

"He's an old man, maybe he cannot stay a long time in prison in Vietnam."

Charges of child rape, which carries the death penalty in Vietnam, were dropped after Glitter allegedly paid the girls' families $2,000 (GBP1,175) for their "co-operation".

Meanwhile British authorities have revealed the singer could face incarceration in his native country, should he ever try to return to England, under new laws aimed at stamping out child sex tourism.

The stark warning came after British police questioned Glitter in his Vietnamese cell yesterday (28FEB06) over the reported discovery of 2,311 pornographic images of children on his computer.

The singer was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography.
