Girls Aloud Claim U2's Number One Slot
British band GIRLS ALOUD's cover version of the PRETENDERS' I'LL STAND BY YOU has knocked U2's VERTIGO off the top of the UK singles chart.
The pop beauties - who formed two years ago (02) on TV talent show POPSTARS - re-recorded the track for BBC's CHILDREN IN NEED charity and are thrilled it beat the original's chart position of number 10 in 1994.
U2's latest single plummeted to number seven while DESTINY'S CHILD's comeback tune LOSE MY BREATH shot to number two, followed by LEMAR's new entry IF THERE'S ANY JUSTICE.
NO DOUBT star GWEN STEFANI's debut solo single WHAT YOU WAITING FOR? has defied SIR ELTON JOHN's criticisms to score fourth place followed by boyband McFLY'S ambitious ballad ROOM ON THE 3RD FLOOR.22/11/2004 03:28
