Gillespie Partied With Junkie Instead Of Awards Ceremony
PRIMAL SCREAM rocker BOBBY GILLESPIE once ditched attending a prestigious awards ceremony in favour of getting high with a junkie friend. The British band's SCREAMADELICA album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 1992, an award given to the best British or Irish disc of the preceding year. But Gillespie decided he had better things to do - and missed out on seeing Screamadelica win. He says, "I couldn't be bothered. I went to visit a junkie friend of mind and got completely wasted."
