Gibson Pays Tribute To Women In His Life
Hollywood hunk MEL GIBSON has paid tribute to the two women who saved him from ruining his life - wife ROBYN and singer TINA TURNER.
The LETHAL WEAPON star stopped drinking alcohol over ten years ago, after both ladies insisted he had a problem with booze.
Turner confronted the hunky Australian about his problem whilst shooting MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME in 1985.
He says, "She stayed with a man who was horrible to her, and she'd seen it. She handed me a photograph of myself one day, and she'd written on it with an eyebrow pencil or something.
"She said, 'Don't f*** this up,' on the picture. It wasn't too long after that I figured out what she meant."
Gibson, who admits "I used to drink six bottles for breakfast", was then prompted to seek professional help when wife Robyn - mother to his seven children - threatened to leave him in 1991.
The 47-year-old says, "When Robyn threatened to go, I went to ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS. Now I only drink water. My wife gives me a great deal of courage and holds the Gibson family together.
"Of all the people I know she has been the biggest influence on me."11/08/2003 21:06
