Gervais Shunned Lead Hollywood Role
British comic RICKY GERVAIS stunned a board of Hollywood bosses when he snubbed a major movie role, and advised them to offer it to JOHN CUSACK.
The creator and star of THE OFFICE became a highly sought-after name in Tinseltown following the double GOLDEN GLOBE-winning success of his hit TV sitcom in 2004, but Gervais was determined to avoid sacrificing his art for multi-million dollar film deals.
He says, "I was offered a lead part in a film after the first episode of The Office, and I said to them: 'I wouldn't go and see a film if I was in it. You want someone like John Cusack.'"
However, Gervais is currently featuring in new animated movie VALIANT - as a voice for cartoon character BUGSY. The comedian will next be seen starring as a bit-part actor desperate for fame and fortune in his new TV series EXTRAS.21/03/2005 14:11
