Gervais Fears Extras Will Be A Disappointment To Many
British funnyman RICKY GERVAIS is terrified his new TV comedy EXTRAS will be considered a disappointment - because it is unlikely the show will be able to replicate the success of his award-winning THE OFFICE.
The comic actor has enlisted a galaxy of Hollywood A-listers including SAMUEL L JACKSON, BEN STILLER and KATE WINSLET for the new sitcom, which premieres on UK network BBC2 on Thursday (21JUL05).
But Gervais is repulsed by big viewing figures, and would regard it as a failure if Extras equalled the success of The Office, which won two Golden Globes and six BAFTAs.
He says, "It's the disappointing follow-up to The Office.
"Will Extras win as many awards? Definitely not. How are we going to win all those Golden Globes and BAFTAs again?
"More viewers? I hope not. The reason we're on BBC2 (and not BBC1) is that we want cult status. Big ratings give me the creeps. That just doesn't interest us."18/07/2005 05:20
