Gellar Passed Test With Prinze Jr's Tough Mother

FREDDIE PRINZE JR immediately knew his wife SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR was the one for him, when his mother didn't force her out of the house like so many of his other girlfriends.

The SCOOBY-DOO co-stars, who have been married for three of the six years they've been together, had to go through a stringent "dinner test" applied by members of the actor's family to check she was a worthy girlfriend.

Prinze Jr says, "I brought plenty (of girlfriends) home, they just quickly ran out the door. My mom, she just didn't have patience for anyone that she didn't feel was marriage material. Even at the age of 14, girls would come home and we had the dinner test, which we still exercise in our family to this day.

"My mother's a fantastic, wonderful chef, and she would make extreme things and, depending on how far the woman made it through dinner, that (decided) how many more dates you got.

"But a lot of times, they wouldn't make it that far, because they would walk in and I would go to wash up and my mother would be so harsh on these girls. She'd be like, 'You know he's never going to be with you! You know it's just not going to work! I mean, did you see the last girl he dated? Okay, look at her, now look at you!' Whatever she could say to get them out and not be with her son.

"So Sarah was the first one she was ever nice to."

Actors That Just Can't Stand The Sight of Each Other 4306634 News

Recently, Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that he thought Kiefer Sutherland was ‘the most unprofessional’ person he’d ever worked with during his time on the hit show 24 in 2010. While promoting his new Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels at the San Diego Comic-Con, the 38-year-old explained that he took a hiatus from Hollywood as a result of his difficulty playing Cole Ortiz on 24.

It would seem, then, that actors are often a lot better at their profession than we give them credit for. While viewers watch scenes of love, tenderness, friendship and camaraderie, backstage, certain actors have all sorts of problems with each other.

Here’s a look at other stars who’ve dazzled onscreen but fought viciously off it.

Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling

Rachel McAdams

It’s been ten years since The Notebook successfully hit the cinemas and director, Nick Cassavetes, seems to feel now is the time to reveal its backstage secrets. Speaking to VH-1, Cassavetes explained that, despite their chemistry onscreen and eventual romance off it, there was one point when Gosling wanted McAdams kicked off the set.

Cassavetes revealed: ‘He’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, "Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?" I said, "What?" He says, "I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this."’

Fortunately, Gosling was able to put his troubles aside and audiences were gifted with one of the most iconic love stories of the 21st Century.

Lindsey Lohan and America Ferrera

Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan was not well received as a guest star by America Ferrera on Ugly Betty

It looks like Ugly Betty was ugly in name and ugly in nature when Lindsey Lohan arrived as a guest star on the set of the American drama in 2008. At the time Lohan was struggling with a personal life permanently splashed all over the news with reports of wild drunkenness abound.

Rumours circulated that she smoked on set and needed a huge entourage wherever she went but Lohan’s camp claimed Ferrera was the mean one.

Either way, these mean girls couldn’t patch things up for long, and Lohan’s cameo was cut short from six episodes to four.

Bill Murray and Lucy Liu

Bill Murray
Bill Murray squabbled with his co-star, Lucy Liu, on the set of Charlie's Angels

It seems Bill Murray didn’t think that all of Charlie’s Angels were very angelic when he appeared in the first film of the franchise. It was reported that there was a big argument between Murray, who played Bosley, and Liu when he questioned her ability to act on set and she responded in kind with a couple of angel-swinging fists.

Consequently, Murray refused to reprise his role in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Bernie Mac was brought in as a replacement.

Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels

Anthony Daniels
Anthony Daniels did not win over his co-star, Kenny Baker, during the film of George Lucas' original Star Wars

As close as Star Wars characters R2-D2 and C-3PO may have been in the film, co-stars Baker and Daniels were anything but behind the scenes.

The pair, who worked together on the original 1977 George Lucas Star Wars, were not friendly and Baker says he has no regrets not forming a friendship with the British Daniels. Baker said: "Anthony doesn’t mix at all - he keeps himself to himself. He never wants to have a drink with any of us."

Fortunate that the two only ever had to interact on screen as their various robotic counterparts then.

Freddie Prinze Jr. Almost Quit The Business After Working With "24" Co-Star Kiefer Sutheland 4305456 News

Kiefer Sutherland recently received the worst kind of negative review – one from a fellow actor. Freddie Prinze Jr., who co-starred with Sutherland on the recently revived 24, recalls that his unpleasant on-set relationship with Sutherland almost caused the younger actor to leave the business for good.

 Freddie Prinze Jr.
FPJ has since found his footing, but he had a few rough years after 24.

"I did '24,' it was terrible," the 38-year-old actor told ABC News about his experience on the hit Fox series in 2010. "I hated every moment of it."

He continued: "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face. I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

Prinze didn’t elaborate on the details of his experience, but he did hint that he was made to take his shoes off to make Sutherland seem taller, when the two were doing scenes together "Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time," he quipped. "You know I'm 6 feet and he's 5'4"."

Eventually, Prinze left 24 and spent some time away from acting. However, he was soon to find that there was no escape from temperamental co-workers "I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ's sake," he revealed. "It was a crazier job than working with Kiefer."

On Tuesday, Sutherland issued a remarkably professional response, via his rep. The actor claimed that this was the first time he had heard Prinze's complaints and he wished his former co-star all the best. Hopefully this means peace can be restored in the land now.

Freddy Prinze Jr. Blasts "Unprofessional" Kiefer Sutherland For Making Him Nearly Quit Acting 4304943 News

Fans of Freddie Prinze Jr. first fell in love with him after he starred in several teen movies during the late 1990's and early 2000's, but as his career matured, Freddie seemed to be in the limelight less and less. Maybe the reason for this has finally surfaced.

It is all Kiefer Sutherland's fault apparently, the two actors co-starred in the eight series of Fox's '24' back in 2010, in which Sutherland played the lead role of Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer, and this experience nearly led Freddy to quit acting altogether.

So what was the problem?

But shortly after working alongside Sutherland, Prinze Jr. found himself working for another notorious headstrong television star.

Sutherland, who has yet to respond to Freddie's criticism, was also in attendance at Comic-Con promoting '24: Live Another Day,' but it isn't clear if the pair ever came face to face at the convention.

However, in an interview with Parade in 2009, prior to working with each other, Sutherland was nothing but completely of Freddy joining the '24' cast. "We have some great actors joining us - Mykelti Williamson is the head of CTU, Freddie Prinze Jr. is playing my partner," he said of season 8. "So, it's this great balance between something that's new and what fans will find familiar."

New 'Scooby Doo' Movie Announced In Wake Of Casey Kasem Death 4248218 News

A brand new Scooby Doo movie has been given the green light by Warner Bros. just days after the announcement that the original Shaggy voice actor, Casey Kasem, had passed away. Whilst it's unlikely that the two headlines are anything more than a coincidence, the movie news is bound to receive a greater interest from those looking to remember the life of the radio star and actor.

The studio is said to be "starting from scratch" to create a brand new incarnation of the well-loved kid's mystery series, according to Deadline. Though very few details are known at this stage, the new movie will follow in the same vein as its predecessors in that it will be live action instead of animation.

Many will remember Warner Bros.'s two noughties live action reboots of the classic animated show, Scooby Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. The first of the two movies was an instant hit, earning $275m worldwide but its widely-panned, Razzie-winning, 2004 successor fell short of that figure by $90m and the series was halted.

Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, memorably took on the larger-than-life roles of Fred, Velma, Daphne and Shaggy. Though no stars have been announced to be attached to the crime-solving roles just yet, there will undoubtedly be speculation over whether the original four will be reprising their roles of if Warner really will be "starting from scratch."

Randall Green has been tapped to direct the new picture, taking the reins from Raja Gosnell, who was responsible for the '02 and '04 retakes. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that original producer Charles Roven will produce the new film for Atlas.

More: Matthew Lillard turns to directing as movie roles dry up.

The original Scooby-Doo cartoon TV series, Scooby Doo, Where Are You!, debuted in 1969 and has continued to entertain children to the present day. Over 30 different actors have played the main four characters as well as the cowardly pooch Scooby Doo himself.

Gellar's Baby Name Revealed! Is He Named After Classic Boxer? 3382631 News

Sarah Michelle Gellar's choice of baby name for her second child has finally been revealed, some two months after she and husband Freddie Prinze Jr welcomed the baby boy. Since the birth, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, 35, has managed to keep the name under wraps - until now.

After rumors began flying around the internet, Gellar's representative was forced to confirm to US Weekly that Rocky James is the name of their first little boy. Married for ten years, Gellar and Prinze Jr are already parents to 3-year-old Charlotte Grace, though it looks as though they've got a real fighter on their hands this time. Of course, Rocky is also the name of two of history's most famous fighters, Rocky Marciano and the fictional Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone in six movies. The name is actually of English origins, and in its most literal sense means "stony" or "craggy", however, it's also used as a nickname for the Italian "Rocco" (the 14th-century saint). It's perhaps easier to locate to reasoning behind Rocky's middle name James, with father Freddy sharing the name middle moniker.

With no projects on the horizon, it seems as though Gellar is enjoying motherhood for the time being. Freddie recently voiced a character for the animation Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, though his schedule looks pretty empty too. With Rocky about, they're probably going to need all the spare time they have.
