Gay Group Endorses Brokeback Mountain

America's leading gay and lesbian organisation has given ANG LEE's controversial new movie BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN a boost by calling the movie "the most poignant love story".

Officials at the Gay + Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are endorsing the film, which features love scenes between straight actors JAKE GYLLENHAAL and HEATH LEDGER, who play gay cowboys.

And they go so far as the hail the release of the film later this month (DEC05) as "a historic moment in film history".

GLAAD president NEIL GIULIANO says, "This film has tremendous potential to connect with audiences gay and straight alike. People will relate to these characters and to the emotional authenticity of their story.

"What Brokeback Mountain does is allow audiences to experience, on an intensely emotional level, how ignorance and intolerance can force people to deny their love and deny who they are."

GLAAD bosses are providing a resource kit for critics featuring information on real-life gay cowboys and the rural gay experience.

The only direction we recieved, straight from the garden of Eden, was to "be fruitful and multiply".No matter your choice to follow this commandment or not, children are indeed a blessing and the closest thing to heaven on earth. In agreement with other writers, of course we are all individuals, but that does not mean everything everyone does is a good thing, benefits society, and should be accepted by all. People who choose to flounder in so-called Gay-ness will always be with us. So live and let live, but please, when these same folks try to "sell" the rest of us on what they want to believe is ok, don't accuse us of intolerance when we don't buy into it. Actually, on second thought, I guess I am fine with being intolerant - when it comes to error. We all should be intolerant of it. You can't make anyone live right, you have enough to worry about within your own actions, but I certainly don't have to accept error into my own life - nor feel guilty about it. Whether you like it or not, there are absolutes, there are natural laws, and there is universal morality. I, like many others, happen to find it is best to ascribe to these things as put forth by the original author - God - and not to try to bend, question, or rewrite them altogether. If you chose to live outside of His directions for life, you will simply experience the natural results of breaking those laws for human happieness. No matter how badly I think I should be able to fly and no matter how convincing an argument I attempt to concoct about why mankind should be able to fly if they want to, if I jump off that building, I will go splat. A movie like this - and also "In and Out" with Tom Selleck - had underlying messages that designed to soften and undermine a person's stand, by spotlighting anyone who opposed gay-ness to be intolerant. It's a tricky, sublte way to get people to question the truth. Satan, was the most subtle of all creatures in the garden, and he tricked Eve and Adam by simplt getting them to question what God had really said about eating of the forbidden tree.Movies like this may sound like they have lofty goals of getting people to examine themselves and their position of being 'intolerant', but they are simply being subtle in their actual efforts to get people to question what God has actually said in His word.Be loving, be accepting of the person, but be smart enough to draw the line so as to not get sucked in to this confusion of their actions.

Staying out of the gay debate, I think the main point to be made here is the one made by maphere, who said that only gay men are going to go see this movie. I think that's basically correct after opening weekend (the film does have a huge amount of buzz, which may attract curiosity-seekers). After that, gay men and maybe a few thousand straight women will go, and a few hundred of those will manage to drag their boyfriends. Yeah, it'll make some more money in New York and L.A., where most of us just want to see a good movie and don't get hung up on taboo subjects, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a $16-20 million gross at most.

Out of 300,000,000 people in this country, roughly 4%(4,600,000) are gay.(CDC) Hollywood and T.V. leads us to believe that it is much higher than it really is. I can't even watch a home improvment show anymore because they represent it in fantasyland. Number of gay sexual partners compared to straight sexual partners is staggering. That tells me that there is a very distinct lifestyle difference that goes way beyond simple equality and/or tolerance. Tolerance is one thing. Trying to force us to "accept" that kind of behavior is another. We are having a hard enough time keeping our kids from becomming more promiscous little sex freaks, let alone having to listen to our kids see that "everyone" is doing it!This movie is a false representation compared to the facts. STD's are higher in gat communities. They have way more sexual partners. They prance around naked and perform sexual acts in public, such as Mardi Gras. Gay sex clubs. I know of at least 6 of them in Chicago, but I cannot name one straight club! I don't give a crap what they do and I mean no insult to the ones who are in monogomous long term relationships, but that does not represent the mainstream. And college "EURO" proffessors aren't helping either!College graduates age 65 and older are more than three times as likely to favor gay marriage than are seniors with less education (33% to 9%). Among those age 50-64, college grads are twice as likely to favor gay marriage as their less educated counterparts (43% to 21%). By comparison, education makes relatively little difference among those under age 30, where support for gay marriage runs highest. Since younger generations are more likely to have college degrees than older, this education gap contributes to the overall size of the generation gap on gay marriage. http://pewforum.org/docs/index.php?DocID=39

To all you left wing liberal socialists.. not all Bible Thumpers,as you refer to them as,are worried about the gay life style. If you would open your ear holes you would hear they do not like homosexuallity but harbor no aggresive or hateful feelings for the person. You are not that important there are a lot of other things more important then a persons bedroom partner preferences. I am a straight man and I have no quarell with the gay community other than the fact they want preferential traetment because of their sexual preferences.I personally know several gay couples who have provided for each others future security and other financial considerations with out worrying about someone giving it to them like responsible, reasonably people should do.I am so sick and tiered of hearing that if I don't agree with the gay movement I am a homaphob,or if I don't agree with a minorty leadership then I am racist. Grow up and stop hollering and kicking your feet like little children take responsibility for your self and your own actions and stop blaming us for your problems.

Response to "Idontchoosetobegayijustam" bible litterally....?Jesus gave us the New Testament and fulfilled the Jewish law. Jesus is the fulfillment of the laws intended purpose and revelation. Jesus is the true Temple. Jesus became the Lamb instead of real burnt offerings. All things clean and unclean are now the things that come out of the mouth and not those things that go into the mouth. The Sabbath day is in Christ and he is our REST (Sabbath means "rest"). And... yes the New Testament frowns on seeking to glorify yourself with jewlery, costly clothing and fancy hair doo's (We believe these things in our family). But there are a lot of Christians who are worldly and seek to look, dress, and talk like worldy people. Please don't let the blind lead you into a ditch. Look at Jesus and the apostles for an example of truth.I could quote scripture, but I do not think you would really care... because you are just quoting parts of scripture to create a smoke screen to justify being a homosexual.Jesus said "I don't judge you, but the WORD I have spoken to you will judge you in that day". So, I feel the same way. I just tell you the obvious truth that God is not pleased and condemns homosexual behavior in the scriptures. Any honest student of scripture knows that simple teaching. It is not an honest statement to even suggest that God endorses the gay life style in scripture. Please quote the scriptures when you are ready to believe them and live by them. Until then, you have no right to quote something you don't believe in and just want to use to justify an abomination.God loves all the little boys and girls who cry out to him for healing and repentence. God does not like folks who twist HIS WORD to say something HE never meant. In Christ stead, I emplore you to leave HIS WORD out of this. It would be wise to let God be Holy and His WORD be Holy. He loves you and wants the best for you. He says to repent because it the door to our freedom.Eastexas

Gay sex isn't sex, it's sex play. I always though when you loved someone, you wanted the best for them. It isn't necessary to have sex with them. This sex play offers no chance for children--the best thing in life.Sexual and social experiments involving children is not a loving thing to do to children.O.

Similarly, we don't care if you're straight, but don't flaunt it and put it in our face in public and force us to accept your lifestyle. If you want to be straight, that's fine. But please, ACT gay in public. There are children watching! As for poster "leftistdestroyer", I'm not even going to ask how you KNOW there are six gay sex clubs in Chicago, but you don't know of any straight ones!

To Imassuming...Hey, good to talk with you again. I read your comments and I wanted to respond about how many of us straight men respond when we see gay men kissing or whatever. It is disgusting to me, not because the people are disgusting, but the act is so opposite of what of my personal desires. It's like watching people eat cow brains on "FEAR FACTOR", it repulses me. I was not taught to hate gays and as I mentioned before I have good friends that I frequently get together with who are gay. But my response to gay sex is negative. Even though I can cognitively realize that they enjoy it and even love each other there's not an ounce of my being that is drawn to what you would consider the most attractive man in the world let alone the idea of being intimate with a him...yuck. I imagine you have the same perspective towards women. This is why I don't want to see the movie. I don't relate to two men romantically loving each other and I have no desire to watch them have sex. I don't want to see King Kong either as I don't relate to an ape romantically involved with a woman.Bottom line, it is not immoral nor intolerant to be disgusted by things that are repulsive to you. Watching humans eat cow brains is not interesting just as watching men kiss is not interesting to me.This is why I think the movie is going to tank. Straight men genuinely don't want to see other men kissing even if they're tolerant, and most straight women aren't interested in it either, no matter how the movie is framed, everybody knows it's for the gay community. I'm disappointed that it received so many Oscar nods as it seems more appearant that Hollywood is full of their own ideology. I realize I've not seen the movie and not necessarily in position to question them, but it's hard not to view Hollywood as a political machine.Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, please don't take it personally if we don't enjoy gay sex, it just doesn't appeal straight men.
