Microsoft chairman BILL GATES urged people to take action to save Africa during a surprise appearance at yesterday's (02JUL05) Live 8 concert in London.
The philanthropic billionaire entrepreneur made a surprise appearance at the musical event where he told the Hyde Park crowd to be proactive in persuading the world's leaders to eliminate poverty in Africa.
Gates announced in January (05) he will donate $691.6 million (GBP380 million) towards life-saving vaccines for millions of children in poor countries.
He says, "The world is beginning to demand more action on poverty.
"We know what to do. Some day in the future all people, no matter where they are born, will be able to live a healthy life.
"We can do this and when we do, it will be the best thing humanity has ever done."
