Garth Brooks Grants Teenager's Dying Wish
Country superstar GARTH BROOKS rushed to grant the wish of an ailing teenager - just days before her death.
RENEE LEE, an 18-year old from California, was eager to meet the singer - and MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION volunteer WENDY QUINN was bound and determined to make it happen.
After pursuing the conventional channels and learning that Brooks could not immediately meet with Lee, Quinn started an e-mail campaign to every Nashville, Tennessee, news anchor she could contact. An anchor at the CBS affiliate passed the message onto Brooks' former publicist, who got it to Brooks.
The very next day, Brooks sent his personal jet to pick up Lee and her family and take them to America's gambling capital Las Vegas where he was participating in a charity fundraiser.
An elated Lee spent the day with Brooks and his girlfriend TRISHA YEARWOOD, and were later give prime seats at the charity benefit concert. Sadly, Lee died a week later.
Quinn says, "It made the end of her life so much happier."
Lee's funeral was on Wednesday (23JUL03), complete with flowers from Brookes and Yearwood.25/07/2003 19:49
