Garfunkel Delivers Community Service Address

Singer ART GARFUNKEL has given two speeches to high school students on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle as part of his community service after being arrested last year (05) for marijuana possession. THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE star, who with PAUL SIMON made up the duo SIMON + GARFUNKEL, chose community service over paying a $100 (GBP56) fine. Ulster County, New York district attorney DONALD WILLIAMS said the 64-year-old singer spoke at two Hudson Valley, New York schools in late March (06). Garfunkel was found with a marijuana cigarette in his ashtray after being pulled over for running a stop sign in Woodstock, New York. It was the second time in less than two years that Garfunkel, a Manhattan, New York, resident, was arrested for marijuana possession in Ulster County. Williams, who attended Garfunkel's speech, says, "He was sincere, thoughtful and impressive.
