Fry Attacks Self-Obsessed Sci-Fi Writers

STEPHEN FRY has accused science-fiction writers of taking themselves too seriously.

The British actor signed up to star in the movie version of HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY despite his passionate dislike of all things sci-fi - a decision he justifies by claiming the classic book's author DOUGLAS ADAMS wasn't interested in the genre either.

And while Fry was intrigued by the characters and plot Adams created in his novel, he deems most sci-fi writers "unappealing" - just like the stories they create.

He says, "I'm not a fan of science-fiction but neither was Douglas. He just happened to write a book about space and time.

"I wouldn't want to mention names but I don think science-fiction writers take themselves far too seriously. I always picture them as the COMIC BOOK GUY from THE SIMPSONS: you know the one, fat and unappealing."
