Friend Attacks Hepburn Auction

Late film legend KATHARINE HEPBURN's chosen biographer A SCOTT BERG has furiously attacked a decision to break up an archive of documents by auctioning many of her most intimate possessions.

The actress's close friend and author of KATE REMEMBERED believes that the exclusive New York auction house SOTHEBY'S is invading her privacy by selling objects like her clothes, address books and diaries.

Berg fumes, "There are things about this sale that dismay me. Look at lot 647 - her tennis shorts! That is crossing the line.

"At least her shorts have been laundered and Sotherby's does not appear to be selling her underwear. We have been spared that."

The sale - which is estimated to raise $1 million (GBP546,000) - will be held in New York on 10 and 11 June (04) and features 684 lots including her paintings, passports and love letters.
