Floyd's Dark Side Marks 1,500 Weeks On Us Chart

PINK FLOYD's landmark DARK SIDE OF THE MOON album scored another major record in America last week (ends05MAY06) by becoming the first recording to spend 1,500 weeks on the Billboard charts. The 1973 album was the highest debut on the Top 200 when it entered the chart at number 98. The album stayed on the chart for 736 successive weeks before it fell out of the Top 200 in 1988. Dark Side of The Moon has since notched up a further 759 non-consecutive weeks on the chart. The album has now sold an estimated 40 million copies worldwide. Pink Floyd star ROGER WATERS always knew the group had recorded something special, but he had no idea the album would have such staying power. He tells Billboard.com, "When the record was finished, I took a reel-to-reel copy home with me, and I remember playing it for my wife and her bursting into tears when it was finished. "I thought, 'This has obviously struck a chord.' I was kinda pleased by that. I thought to myself, 'Wow, this is a pretty complete piece of work,' and I had every confidence that people would respond to it." Waters plans to play the album in its entirety on his upcoming tour.
