Flaming Lips Star Fears Meeting Same Tragedy As Beach Boy
FLAMING LIPS star STEVEN DROZD is determined to avoid meeting the same alcohol-fuelled fate of BEACH BOYS legend DENNIS WILSON - as he approaches the late drummer's fateful age.
The 35-year-old LATE NIGHT TALES instrumentalist, who kicked heroin addiction in 2001, is petrified his hedonistic tendencies could turn him into another rock star casualty - with the memory of Wilson's death looming large in his mind.
Speaking of Wilson, who died at the age of 39, Drozd says, "When you see that footage of him at the end, isn't that just depressing as hell?
"I'm going to have to watch my drinking, because that's where I'll be in three or four years."
As for the fascination with rock stars who die young, such as JIM MORRISON and KURT COBAIN, Drozd hits out, "That romanticised notion is bulls**t. When you're living it, there's nothing good about it at all."10/04/2005 21:23
