Fierstein Enjoys Rare Downtime

Flamboyant actor HARVEY FIERSTEIN is thrilled his run on hit Broadway show HAIRSPRAY has come to an end - because he's now enjoying his first week off in almost two years.

The actor has portrayed EDNA TURNBLAD in 769 performances, and has now handed over starring duties to MICHAEL McKEAN.

He says, "I got my hair cut. I had to keep it long all this time so they could attach the wigs. Short hair feels great.

"And I'm growing my eyebrows and my leg hair back. I saw Michael McKean, who had to have his eyebrows, his chest and his legs shaved, and I said, 'Now you know, COOKIE.'"
