Field Called On Influential Friends For Fashion Favours
Former SEX AND THE CITY stylist PATRICIA FIELD called on some famous friends in the fashion industry to make sure MERYL STREEP and ANNE HATHAWAY had the absolute best wardrobe for THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Field had a costume budget of only $100,000 (GBP55,000) for the film shoot, set in the world of high fashion publishing, but ended up scoring over $1 million (GBP555,000) worth of clothes. She tells the New York Post, "We could never have done it without my friends in the fashion industry helping us along. "It would have been impossible. The level of fur coats, and designer bags - oh my God! It has to be over 100 designers. "We must have used at least $1 million worth of clothing." Field had a say in which designers were mentioned in the film, but insists there was no intentional product placement. She says, "They were going to mention designers no matter what, so I said, 'Let's mention the ones that helped us,' because that's one way of thanking them." Among those designers lending a helping hand was GARAVANI VALENTINO, who even scored a cameo in the movie. Field adds, "He helped us so much with Meryl. And then I suggested he be in the movie and he went for it and he came with his entourage. He had fun!"
