Farrell Begs For Joint Custody

Movie wildman COLIN FARRELL is a changed man following the birth of his son JAMES - and is begging ex-love KIM BORDENAVE to give him joint custody of the adorable lad.

The PHONE BOOTH hunk says he has been given a reason to live following the arrival of his first child, and insists he's curbed his love of drink, women and carousing in order to be a good father.

And Colin says he is willing to do anything to play a big role in James' life, including being more selective about the film roles he accepts.

Doting Colin says, "There are things I may have done before my son was born that I won't do anymore.

"He's given me a will to live I never had before. A will to stay around for a long time because I want to see him grow up. We're in the process of working out custody details and, please God, there will be shared custody.

"There will have to be timetables and schedules, but I will always be in his life for ever. He'll always know who his dad is.

"I adore him. For me, fatherhood is the ultimate success."

Those Colin Farrell for 'Iron Man 4' Rumors Refuse To Die 4299819 News

Rumors are abound that seminal Iron Man actor, Robert Downey Jr, will not be returning for a fourth instalment as the man in the super strong suit. Whether this is Downey Jr related because he’s become too expensive for the role or Tony Stark related and the character is actually killed off in Avengers: Age of Ultron is uncertain.

Whatever the reason, Colin Farrell’s name has been put in the replacement frame and it seems Iron Man as a rolling character with different actors is not a new thought to the studios.

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Fiege, said last year, "I see no reason why Tony Stark can’t be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman for that matter. Or Spider-Man."

The problem is, of course, that there are very few actors that have encompassed their superhero so completely as Downey Jr. Downey Jr is Stark, Stark is Iron Man and Iron Man is Downey Jr. So can anyone really fill his shoes and, if they can, is Farrell the one to do it?

Farrell has had a career full of highs and lows, including the unfortunate failure of Alexander and the huge critically-acclaimed gems of In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths.

Of course, this is not dissimilar to his American counterpart whose career took a turn for the worse as he battled with substance abuse and didn’t really start to fly again until he put on the Iron Man suit for the first time in 2008

Also, it simple can't be denied that they’re both charming chaps. Farrell with his delectable Irish accent definitely oozes the character of loveable rogue and plays to that strength well.

In Stark, Downey Jr has already accomplished that cheeky, charming persona of a man who refuses to play by the rules - personality traits that, if anyone else could attempt, Farrell might be the man.

With that twinkle in his eye Farrell could easily play a tortured soul, something we’ve come to expect from our iron men as a result of Downey Jr’s natural performance as emotionally-complicated Stark.

So maybe Farrell is a credible replacement. The real question is then: are we really ready to part with Downey Jr?

What's Happening With 'Iron Man 4'? Robert Downey Jr. Too Pricey? Colin Farrell To Step In? 4298748 News

If you can be sure of one thing, it’s that Marvel will keep putting out Iron Man films until we stop paying to see them. You can also be sure that Robert Downey Jr. will be demanding lucrative pay structure to return to the franchise.

Iron Man 3Robert Downey Jr. shooting Iron Man 3

The actor, who played Tony Stark and his iron-clad alter-ego for the first three films to both critical acclaim and fiscal success, was named as the highest earning actor working in Hollywood by Forbes for the second year running, and a huge part of that was down to his work on Iron Man 3, which grossed $1.2b from the global box office.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Downey confirmed that a fourth Iron Man film, with him starring, isn’t beyond the bounds of possibility. "It's down to Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree,” he said. But if he's too expensive, then there's always the Colin Farrell option - he wasn't anywhere near the Forbes earners list, and would represent a cheaper option.

Although money might not be the stumbling block. It’s likely that Marvel would pay a huge amount to have Downey Jr. back, should the plot allow it to happen, but with rumours abounding that Stark is killed off in the upcoming Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, his presence in the new movie is under scrutiny. Downey Jr. himself seems sure he’ll be back. “It’s that thing of: why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed? Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out,” he said, adding: “The future is, as usual, uncertain.”

Either way, Iron Man 4 will go ahead. "I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th," Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege said last year. "I see no reason why Tony Stark can't be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman for that matter. Or Spider-Man. I think Iron Man is a character just like that."

True Detective Has Solid TCA Awards Show Off The Back of Season 2 Rumours 4295905 News

Having just processed the latest True Detective season 2 plot rumors, we saw the show pick up the TCA award for Best Miniseries (Emmy rules don’t apply), while Matthew McConaughey walked away with the male acting gong. Scroll down for the full list of winners.

Matthew McConaughey True DetectiveMatthew McConaughey stars as Rust Cohle in True Detective

He beat out Bryan Cranston who polished of the role of a lifetime as Walter White in Breaking Bad’s fifth season. But McConaughey’s 8-episode stint as Rustin Cohle, the lone wanderer prone to existential mumblings, didn’t surprise anyone, such is the quality of writing on HBO’s hauntingly gothic miniseries.

Which brings us, and the rest of the TV-adoring public, right on to season two and what it may contain. We already know it’s taking a look at the “occult” history of the American transport system, and that ‘hard women’ will take the centre stage.

So we, we think we know Colin Farrell is starring – not the most popular decision, if it proves to be true. His character will be that of an officer working for the California Highway Patrol, according to multiple sources helping to keep the rumour mill turning. Suspended for the sexual exploitation of a young woman that he pulled over, Farrell’s character, like Rustin, will be dealing with his personal demons as well as anger management issues and drugs.

With nothing concrete on True Detective season 2, it’s left to ‘us websites’ to speculate until someone with something official to say…. Says something.

Colin Farrell Set To Be Cast In 'True Detective' Season 2 4282184 News

Colin Farrell is in advanced talks to star in the highly anticipated second season of HBO's True Detective. According to Variety, the Irish actor will board Nic Pizzolato's acclaimed series, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first outing.

"I think the people we will cast will be well-known names," HBO president Michael Lombardo said at Thursday's TCA presentation. "But that wasn't our ambition (in season 1)."

It is rumored that Farrell will be joined by a female co-star, though Nic Pizzolatto confirmed that the show will feature four lead roles.

"They didn't exist until I created them, then in their creation I developed a personal attachment to them," Pizzolatto said of his new characters. "I think it's the same in anything you write. It's your job to come up with compelling characters who speak to an individual authenticity. If I'm not interested in the characters I can't go on. I have to be fascinated by them. It's the same job as Season 1 to me."

Taylor Kitsch is rumored to be in the mix for one of the other characters, with Garrett Hedlund also apparently in talks.

True Detective earned numerous Emmy nominations on Thursday, including lead actor nods for both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The show averaged a gross audience of 11 million viewers and became HBO's best rated rookie show since Six Feet Under in 2001.

HBO has declined to comment on reports of Farrell's casting though Lombardo said he thought the second season would be "more exciting" than the first.

"Nic (Pizzolatto) is an incredibly talented writer, and he's blown us away with the first two episodes," Lombardo said.

Colin Farrell Reportedly In Talks To Star In 'True Detective' Season 2 4282001 News

'True Detective' may have found its next star.

Colin Farrell is reportedly in talks to star in the popular HBO limited crime series, Deadline reports.

If the Irish film star lands the role, he is expected to feature alongside two more main characters that are believed to be California-based.

This casting speculation comes only 24 hours after the first season of 'True Detective' bagged twelve Emmy nominations, which includes best drama and best drama actor nods for Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Similar to the former co-stars, Farrell has also spent the last decade starring in feature films including 'Seven Psychopaths', 'Total Recall, 'Minority Report' and 'Winter's Tale,' and hasn't appeared in any TV production.

"I think the people we will cast will be well-known names," HBO president Michael Lombardo hinted at Thursday's Television Critics Association presentation. "But that wasn't our ambition (in season 1)."

Farrell, who most recently starred in 'Saving Mr. Banks,' has just finished filming 'Miss Julie' alongside Jessica Chastain, who coincidentally was rumoured to be joining the HBO series just two months ago. But the actress' rep quickly confirmed that there was no truth to these reports.

Fans are hotly anticipating the follow-up season as the first received rave reviews since debuting this past January, and concluding in March.

Harrelson and McConaughey in season one of 'True Detective'

McConaughey and Harrelson starred as two detectives over a timeline of 17 years as they try to track down a serial killer in Louisiana. The unsolved case has to rely on the law enforcers testimonies when re-opened, but as the story progresses the murder becomes more bizarre.

More: Colin Farrell's sons don't understand his career

HBO has not yet commented on the speculation surrounding Farrell, nor has any other information about next season's cast being revealed. However, the creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has implied that female characters will feature heavily in the second season in several tweets and in an interview with HitFix earlier this year.

When asked about what to expect in season 2, Pizzolatto simply said, "This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton...Screech? 'Leaked' Celebrity Sex Tapes 4135554 News

If one of us regular folk filmed ourselves doing the nasty and then the tape was leaked, life as we know it would be over. Most of us can’t think of anything more mortifying than other people seeing us in the throes of lust, as Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal discover in their new movie ‘Sex Tape’.

These celebs, however, see ‘leaked’ sex tapes as a career tool and for most of them it’s not exactly been an embarrassment for the world to see them bumping uglies.

Paris Hilton Sex Tape Hilton hotel heiress Paris Hilton filmed herself doing the nasty with ex-boyfriend, Rick Saloman

Of course, the two most famous sex tapes have come from reality TV stars. Paris Hilton, Hilton hotel heiress and star of ‘The Simple Life’ filmed herself getting down and dirty with ex-boyfriend Rick Saloman. The tape was leaked to the public under the name ‘1 Night In Paris’, although we’re careful about describing this one as a ‘sex tape’. It’s essentially Paris posing in underwear and rolling around on a bed.

The second reality TV star with a sex tape is of course Kim Kardashian. The ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star was caught on camera with ex-boyfriend, rapper Ray-J. Like Paris, Kim’s tape features a lot of writhing around in underwear with added tonguey kissing. It earned her around $5 million, so we’re sure she doesn’t beat herself up too much over its mysterious leak.

Next page: Pamela Anderson and Screech

'Baywatch' alumni Pamela Anderson filmed herself getting all kinds of raunchy on her honeymoon with ex-husband Mötley Crüe founding member, Tommy Lee. The tape was stolen from their home and uploaded onto the internet. Pam initially sued the video distribution company...before signing a deal for a confidential settlement.

Screech Sex Tape Dustin Diamond AKA Screech released a sex tape with two unknown girls

We kid you not, Screech from 'Saved By The Bell' had a sex tape leaked in 2007. A Dustin Diamond sex tape is something that we had hoped would never, ever emerge. Surprisingly, it wasn’t all that popular and failed to resurrect his career as he had planned.  How he ever thought it would do this is anyone's guess.  He does know he's Screech, right?

Ex pro-wrestler Hulk Hogan had a sex tape leaked in 2007, of him and his friend’s wife. Hogan allegedly had permission from the friend, Bubba the Lovesponge (who sounds like a totally wholesome kinda guy), although he was married to his wife, Linda, at the time. It’s unclear whether he had her permission, although they did divorce fairly soon afterwards. So, what do you think?

Mini Me AHA Verne Troyer sued his ex, Ranae Shrider, for allegedly releasing their sex tape in 2008. Shrider has since remarked, “He wasn’t short of sexy skills and tried his hardest to make up in technique what he lacked in size.”

Of course Colin Farrell has a sex tape. The tape was leaked in 2003 by Farrell’s partner in the venture, Playboy model Nicole Narain. Farrell subsequently sued Narain, although apparently hasn’t learned his lesson, telling Jonathan Ross that to avoid future embarrassment, next time he will “take the tape” with him. Wise move and clearly the solution to the problem.

Winter's Tale 4078127 Film Reviews

The fact that this magical romance has been retitled A New York Winter's Tale in the UK tells you what the filmmakers think of the audience: we can't be trusted to get anything on our own. Writer-director Akiva Goldsman lays everything on so thickly that there's nothing left for us to discover here. And he botches the tone by constantly shifting between whimsical fantasy and brutal violence. Sure, the manipulative filmmaking does create some emotional moments, but inadvertent giggles are more likely.

It's mainly set in 1916, where young orphan Peter (Farrell) is running from his relentlessly nasty former boss Pearly (Crowe), a gangster angry that Peter isn't as vicious as he is. Then Peter finds a mystical white horse that miraculously rescues him and leads him to the dying socialite Beverly (Brown Findlay). As they fall deeply in love, Peter believes he can create a miracle to save Beverly from the end stages of consumption. And Pearly is determined to stop him. But nearly a century later, Peter is still wandering around Manhattan in a daze, trying to figure out who he is and why he's still there. He gets assistance from a journalist (Connelly), who helps him make sense of his true destiny.

Yes, this is essentially a modern-day fairy tale packed with supernatural touches. But Goldsman never quite figures out what the centre of the story is, losing the strands of both the epic romance and the intensely violent vengeance thriller. Meanwhile, he condescends to the audience at every turn, deploying overwrought camera whooshing, frilly costumes, dense sets and swirly effects while a violin-intensive musical score tells us whether each a scene should be wondrous or scary. At the centre of this, Farrell somehow manages to hold his character together engagingly, even convincing us that Peter is around 25 years old (Farrell's actually 38).

All of the other characters are one-note: Crowe is irrationally nasty, while Brown Findlay and Connelly barely register beyond being smily and sweet. Hurt and Saint offer some strong support in implausible roles, while Smith's extended cameo is simply absurd. We try to connect with the characters, finding moving scenes here and there, but Goldsman continually throws us out of the story with another flash of grisly savagery. And the real problem is that he never connects the dots, insisting that we believe the plot just because he says so.

'Winter's Tale' Receives Icy Critical Reception 4069321 News

Winter's Tale, also known as A New York Winter's Tale, has failed to warm the hearts of critics following its Valentine's Day release.

Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell stars in Winter's Tale as Peter Lake.

The film has a stellar cast including: Colin Farrell (Phone Booth); Russell Crowe (Les Misérables); Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey); Jennifer Connelly (Beautiful Mind); Will Smith (Men in Black); and a large host of other famous names.

Winter's Tale, based on Mark Helprin's novel of the same name, tells the story of Peter Lake (Farrell), a burglar who falls in love with a wealthy heiress, Beverly Penn (Findlay) whilst seeking refuge in her mansion. Lake is a burglar and on the run from his former gang leader, Pearly Soames, played by Russell Crowe. Penn is dying from tuberculosis but this doesn't stop Lake from falling in love with her. During this period, both Soames and Lake find themselves moving between two time periods: New York in the 1916 and the city in 2014.

Jessica Brown Findlay
Jessica Brown Findlay as Beverly Penn in Winter's Tale.

As confusing as it seems in writing, it's just as complex in the film and, as the critics point out, only those who have read the book will understand the comings and goings of the various characters. Jocelyn Noeveck (Associated Press) referenced this aspect in her review, stating Winter's Tale "might all make more sense to fans of the book. But you shouldn't have to have read the book to be able to see and enjoy the movie."

However, even those who have read the book have struggled to appreciate the film and have described it, as A.O. Scott wrote in the New York Times, "Clumsy and inert, a lumbering white elephant rather than the flying white horse that is the novel's magical mascot."

Critics have failed to understand the premise of the film and believe it is a confusing mass of ideas gone largely astray. Claudia Puig (USA Today) wrote "Not only is the story of magic, angels, demons and predetermined destiny preposterous, but the characters are also unconvincing and the dialogue sanctimonious."

Those who have positively reviewed the Winter's Tale are evidently hopeless romantics and have appreciated the presence of romance within the film. As Kenneth Turan (L.A. Times) wrote: "Because it is fearlessly sincere and not totally successful, Winter's Tale is easy to mock. But it is also hard not to admire its willingness to go all out in its quest for the grandest of romantic gestures."

Winter's Tale is out in US cinemas now and will be in UK cinemas on 21st February 2014.

'A Winter's Tale': Assessing Colin Farrell's Up and Down Career 4067746 News

Colin Farrell is back with 'A Winter's Tale', which is hoping to draw in audiences over Valentine's weekend. As the Irish actor tries to regain his leading man status we look back over his career of ups and down and tabloid headlines.

Colin Farrell, star of 'Winter's Tale'Colin Farrell, star of 'Winter's Tale'

Irish actor Colin Farrell’s career started off in the rather unglamorous BBC TV show ‘Ballykissangel’, from 1998 to 1999 Farrell had a small role as Danny Byrne in the English produced drama which was set in Ireland. Farrell’s good looks and roguish image, however would mean that film offers weren't too long in coming. His first big screen role was in Tim Roth’s ‘The War Zone’, which he followed with a supporting role in ‘Ordinary Decent Criminal’ alongside Kevin Spacey. However critics first took notice of the actor in 2000’s’ ‘Tigerland’ directed by Joel Schumacher. Though the film was not a commercial success he gained positive reviews for his performance.

Farrell’s break into the mainstream consciousness happened in 2002 with supporting roles in ‘Minority Report’ and ‘Daredevil’ but it was a run of three films in 2003 that would propel him to Hollywood leading man status. First the thriller ‘Phone Booth’ which saw him carrying  the film playing a man held hostage in a phone booth by an unseen sniper. ‘The Recruit’ teamed him with veteran actor Al Pacino. Though the film gained mixed reviews, it did well enough at the box office not to stall Farrell’s momentum. Starring alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez and LL Cool J action thriller 'S.W.A.T' also didn’t charm critics but took an impressive $207.1 million at the box office. Whilst Farrell’s career was on a high he also started earning a reputation as a Hollywood bad boy, something he seemed to enjoy playing up to in the press. He also at this time made the independant Irish film, 'Intermission' which became the highest grossing Irish indie film of all time.

Farrell followed up his 2003 success the next year with a role in Oliver Stone’s ‘Alexander’ alongside Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer. The big budget, three hour epic was a box office and critical failure and even gained Farrell a ‘Worst Actor’ nomination at the Razzie awards. His next historical endeavour ‘The New World’ was received more positively but failed to draw at the box office. The screen adaptation of 80’s TV series 'Miami Vice' fared better at the box office but critics were once again divided. However the performance of Farrell's that was recieving the most press attention in 2006 was his sex tape which he made in 2003 and was leaked online three years later.

After varying results with his recent Hollywood endeavours, Farrell took on the lead in British black comedy ‘In Bruges’, playing an Irish hit man in hiding alongside Brendan Gleeson. The film would lead to his first major award win as he was named Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards. He followed up the success with the lesser known ‘Triage’ where he played a war correspondent. He returned to the mainstream with a role in 2011’s ‘Horrible Bosses’ playing one of the bosses alongside Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey. The film would become one of the highest grossing comedies of all time, taking over $209 million at the box office. His follow up comedy 'Seven Psychopaths' would be less sucessful. Farrell then took on two remakes, ‘Fright Night’ and ‘Total Recall’ both of which failed to perform at the box office.

Farrell in 'A Winter's Tale'

This year sees Farrell with three films scheduled. First for release is ‘A Winter's Tale’ which is so far receiving negative reviews. The other two films Miss Julie and Solace should be released later in the year. It seems unlike that ‘A Winter’s Tale’ can reinvigorate Farrell’s career, which although not on a downturn, he is far removed from the fame he enjoyed a decade ago. Still the actor is more likely to make headlines from his interview revelations than his movie roles, which is a shame considering he has all the talent and charisma to make him still a bankable Hollywood star.
