Fans Fight To Save Straight Story Home
Fans of DAVID LYNCH movie THE STRAIGHT STORY are campaigning to save the home once owned by the eccentric subject of the film.
The small Iowa house owned by ALVIN STRAIGHT has fallen into disrepair following Straight's death in 1996, and now faces demolition.
Straight hit the headlines in 1994 when he rode his lawnmower on a 465 kilometre (290 mile) trip to visit his sick brother in Wisconsin. The story prompted Lynch to pay tribute to the eccentric pensioner on the big screen.
Last weekend (12-13JUN04), a group of Straight Story fans drove a 11.3 kilometre (seven mile) loop around Straight's hometown Laurens on lawnmowers - including Straight's original - to raise money for repairs.
Iowa officials will now meet to discuss how to proceed with the house.15/06/2004 13:35
