Ephron: 'I Knew Deep Throat Was Felt'

Director Nora Ephron was ecstatic when the identity of the mysterious 'Deep Throat' who sparked the Watergate scandal was recently revealed to be FBI agent MARK FELT - because her ex-husband was the journalist who outed him more than three decades ago.

The When Harry Met Sally writer was married to Washington Post reporter CARL BERNSTEIN at the time he broke the story which led to US President RICHARD NIXON's resignation in 1974.

And although her former husband refused to divulge any details to her, she insists she knew who was behind the furore.

She says, "Carl never told me because I can't keep a secret. But I did figure it out.

"If I give speeches in rooms with 400 people and they asked who was Deep Throat, I said Mark Felt.

"No one paid any attention. It was pathetic. I was thrilled when it came out."
