Elvis Announcer Killed In Car Accident
Rock legend ELVIS PRESLEY's concert announcer AL DVORIN, who made famous the "Elvis has left the building" catchphrase, has died following a car crash.
TODD MORGAN, a spokesman at Presley's Graceland home in Memphis, Tennessee, said he had no information about the accident, but the 81-year-old has died while driving with The King's former photographer ED BONJA.
Dvorin took over the famous phrase from other announcers early in the rock'n'roll hero's career, but brought the line to a wider audience and is heard in many Presley recordings saying it.
Morgan says, "Al made it his own with his particular style. He's the man when it comes to that saying.
"He's a fixture in Elvis world. He'll be greatly missed."
Dvorin would say the words in a bid to disperse Presley fanatics from music venues, hoping in vain for an encore.24/08/2004 02:45
