Elephant Man Crowned The Most Extreme Screen Makeover
Hollywood actor JOHN HURT's portrayal of THE ELEPHANT MAN has been voted the most extreme screen makeover of all time.
Hurt was nominated for an Oscar in 1980 for his excruciating portrayal of tragically disfigured JOHN MERRICK, but lost out to ROBERT DE NIRO's bloody performance in RAGING BULL.
However, customers at British rental chain BLOCKBUSTERS hailed Hurt above De Niro, who bagged third place behind CHARLIZE THERON's unrecognisable turn as real-life murderess AILEEN WUORNOS in MONSTER.
A Blockbusters spokesman says, "This shows how powerful it is when an actor goes to great lengths to portray a character."
The top ten most extreme makeovers are as follows:
2: CHARLIZE THERON (MONSTER)
3: ROBERT DE NIRO (RAGING BULL)
4: RENEE ZELLWEGER (BRIDGET JONES' DIARY)
5: NICOLE KIDMAN (THE HOURS)
6. TOM HANKS (CAST AWAY)
7. WILL SMITH (ALI)
8. LINDA BLAIR (THE EXORCIST)
9. ROBIN WILLIAMS (MRS DOUBTFIRE)
10. JEFF GOLDBLUM (THE FLY).
