Ecclestone Bids To Save Soccer Club
DR WHO star CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTONE has donated $19,000 (GBP10,000) to a campaign to save his favourite soccer club being bought by an American tycoon.
MALCOLM GLAZER, who owns American football team the TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS, is trying to gain control of English team MANCHESTER UNITED.
But supporters of the side are desperate to stop the club from falling into his hands and supporter group SHAREHOLDERS UNITED have launched an appeal.
All proceeds received will go into an investment trust backed by Japanese bank NOMURA, which has pledged to match money raised with a pound for pound loan.
A spokesperson for Shareholders United says of Ecclestone's contribution, "We are delighted Chris has put his money where his heart is."06/05/2005 14:10
