Dr Moog Dies

Synthesiser pioneer DR ROBERT MOOG has died from brain cancer aged 71 at his North Carolina home.

The musical inventor shot to fame when WALTER CARLOS used the Moog synthesiser on his 1968 Grammy award-winning album SWITCHED-ON BACH - and soul legend STEVIE WONDER was an early champion of the ground-breaking instrument.

Dr Moog is credited with revolutionising chart music from the 1960s onwards, after bands including THE BEACH BOYS, THE BEATLES, THE DOORS and THE ROLLING STONES took up the electronic sound.

In recent years, dance artists including THE CURE, FATBOY SLIM and STEREOLAB have also been inspired by the Moog sound.
