Dr John And The Neville Brothers Form New Orleans Supergroup
DR JOHN and members of the NEVILLE BROTHERS have formed a New Orleans, Louisiana, supergroup to help each other mourn the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
The group, the NEW ORLEANS SOCIAL CLUB, secretly formed in an Austin, Texas, recording studio six weeks after the hurricane hit the US Gulf Coast last August (05).
After jamming together for a week, the eclectic group of musicians decided to record an album of cover tunes, paying tribute to their water-logged city.
The result is a self-titled new album featuring renditions of CURTIS MAYFIELD's THIS IS MY COUNTRY and JOHN FOGERTY'S FORTUNATE SON, among other tracks.
IRMA THOMAS and members of the METERS also appear on the album.
