Douglas Pushes For Tighter Gun Control

FATAL ATTRACTION star MICHAEL DOUGLAS is planning to lobby the US government for tighter gun control, because he's still haunted by rocker JOHN LENNON's 1980 shooting death.

Lennon was murdered outside his New York City apartment building by MARK CHAPMAN, and the event is one of the major reasons why Douglas wants to use his position as a United Nations Messenger of Peace to lobby for disarmament.

He says, "I was there the night John Lennon was shot, three blocks away. It left a lasting impression on me.

"It motivated me to do whatever I could to lobby for small-arms control."

Douglas doesn't get it at all. When you make a law, then only the law abiding will follow it. A determined criminal will still find a way to get a gun. The result: law abiding citizens are now at the mercy of armed criminals. The government has had a "war on drugs" for decades now, yet drugs still get in, are freely available and are cheaper than ever. Why does anyone think that guns would be an exception? In fact, the BATF thinks that most of the illegal automatic weapons (machineguns that are already banned) get in WITH drug shipments to gangs.Since Lennon's shooting, New York City has enacted some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation. Washington DC virtually banned handguns just before, around '77 or so. Yet DC often tops the list of most violent places, and New York is experiencing escallating gun violence. Why? Because those "gun control" laws have created a SAFE WORKING ENVIRONMENT FOR CRIMINALS.Listen, Mike; guns have a valid place in society. A gun in the hands of a law abiding citizen IS a gun "in the right hands." There are several studies that show a direct correlation to lower crime and liberal gun possession, and even lower crime rates where concealed carry is permitted. So get educated. If you want lower crime, control criminals. Close "revolving door" policies for prisons. Make stiffer penalties and eliminate legal loopholes so criminals actually pay for their crimes. That would do FAR more to combat crime than making it harder for law abiding citizens to exeercise a valid, constitutional right.

Good, about time to. It is a shame that Jimmy Carter was not successful otherwise the late and great John Lennon would still be alive today.Despite the online petition to stop channel four braodcasting the interview with John Lennon's murderer they are still going ahead with it next Wednesday. Who in their right minds would want to hear the words of that sick psychopath Mark Chapman.I therefore urge everyone with any commonsence, and sane mind, to boycott channel four all next week.
