Dixie Chicks Hit Back At Bush Death Threats

Country stars the DIXIE CHICKS are using their latest single to hit back at death threats they received for criticising US President GEORGE W BUSH. Singer NATALIE MAINES caused an outcry when, on the night war broke out in Iraq in 2003, she declared the band were "ashamed" of the leader. But far from backing down, they are hitting out at the backlash in their new single NOT READY TO MAKE NICE. Banjo player EMILY ROBISON says, "We knew (the song) was special because it was so autobiographical. "The stakes were definitely higher on that song." The controversial track features the lyrics: "It's a sad sad story when a mother will teach her/ Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger/ And how in the world can the words that I said/ Send somebody so over the edge/ That they'd write me a letter/ Sayin' that I better shut up and sing/ Or my life will be over."

"It's a sad, sad story" when an American singer speaks out in an insulting way against her President during wartime while on foreign soil. This is treasonous. This kind of un-American, unpatriotic dribble was NEVER done in World War II. Some celebrities even joined the military to serve their country--Elvis, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, to name several.

Once again the ladies come out swinging..wtg!!! Haven't bought a Toby Keith CD since this incident and stockpiling the Chicks. IF John Kerry had had as much backbone as these three ladies he would now be president. Once more I'm proud to be an American where we DO have freedom of speech. Emily, Martie, Natalie remain true to yourselves and remember there are millions of us out here who are very proud of your integrity and courage...you only said what we think! This song is your best ever, can't wait until May 23rd!!

I'm an old man (61) who hasn't really paid attention to musical groups since the '80s. I've had other things upon which to focus. I've not really paid attention to country music although I've heard some things from time-to-time that I liked. I liken country music to America's folk music. When I heard the brouhaha raised about about Natalie's comment in the UK about Bush, I thought: Tsk, tsk! Not onstage! Later, I heard about radio stations refusing to play their records and death threats. I was alarmed. This is America! They have a right to their opinion. I didn't like this. Then, through, my own sources, I found out that the vitriol came out of the South Carolina Republican Party. Then I became angry.I have been a lifetime Republican. I am an ex-Marine and a combat veteran. I WILL assert my right to speak! I've certainly earned it. These young ladies don't deserve to be treated like this! They have rights guaranteed under the Constitution which I swore to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I do so now.Leave these girls alone! I have tried my best to do my duty and found myself covering for a drug operation in Viet Nam. Those of you who feel you know what it means to be a patriot, look up Marine Major General Smedley Darlington Butler. He fought in the Philippines! He fought in China during the Boxer Rebellion! He fought in various conflicts in Central America and Haiti! He performed with distinction and won two Congressional Medals of Honor. He saved FDR from an attempted Fascist Coup in 1934. He's a hero! Did you learn about him in history class? No, you didn't. You know why? He wrote a book called: "War is a Racket!" He found out what was really going on. Certain billionaires wanted to sell heroin to the Chinese people and the Emperor tried to prevent it. The National Fruit Company, in Latin America, was running drugs. He found he was just a high-priced enforcer for certain corporate interests. He got mad. Those of you who, in your righteous indignation, are giving these young ladies grief, do what General Butler did. Just do what I did. We need bodies in Iraq. Find out what we found out. THEN, you can talk about who is patriotic and who isn't. Maybe you'll find out what it means to be an American, as well.Dixie Chicks, I'm your new fan. I'm going to go out and buy all your CDs. I'll listen to them, too! God bless you darling girls. With respect,AtraHasis

BRAVA !!!! TOO LONG GONE:(On veiwing the new video I stood in front of my computer and clapped and cheered. We have missed your music. The three of you have been blessed with a wonderful talent and I thank you for sharing it with us. We all are human and we also have a right to how we feel. Who among us have never said something that phrased differently would have made life easier? We were never promised an easy life. Thank you for not giving up on those of us that truly enjoy the music you make and share with us.
