Director Calls Nato To Explain His Arsenal

Movie maker ANDREW NICCOL had to inform military officials at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) of his filming plans for LORD OF WAR because he was assembling a dangerous arsenal of weapons and tanks.

The New Zealander called on shady arms dealers to get him the equipment he needed for the new film, starring NICOLAS CAGE, and then worried that NATO bosses would think he was planning a war.

He explains, "We had so many tanks that we had to inform NATO because it looked, from a satellite photograph, like there was a weapons build-up going on in the Czech Republic and we were just making a movie.

"Production had to call up and inform NATO that it was just a movie and 'Don't bomb us, please.'"
