DiCaprio, Bening, Foxx And Fahrenheit 9/11 Lead Early Oscars Charge
LEONARDO DiCAPRIO and ANNETTE BENING have become frontrunners for a 2005 OSCAR after picking up acting prizes at last night's (18OCT04) HOLLYWOOD FILM AWARDS.
The couple claimed Actor and Actress of The Year honours for their work in new films THE AVIATOR and BEING JULIA respectively.
And MICHAEL MOORE's controversial FAHRENHEIT 9/11 narrowly beat MEL GIBSON's THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST for Best Film honours.
JAMIE FOXX's Oscar bid is also looking brighter after he claimed the Breakthrough Actor Award for his turns in RAY CHARLES biopic RAY and thriller COLLATERAL.
And KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, sporting a new short hairstyle, picked up the Breakthrough Actress Award for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL and KING ARTHUR.
Meanwhile, MEL GIBSON took home the Producer of the Year gong, and JOHN TRAVOLTA was honoured with the night's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel prizegiving went to GARDEN STATE director ZACH BRAFF (Breakthrough Director) and MICHAEL MANN (Director of the Year for Collateral).19/10/2004 21:08
