Depp's Pirate Epic Sinks Box Office Opposition
JOHNNY DEPP's high seas epic PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL has sailed to the top of America's box office charts taking a staggering $70.4 million (GBP44 million) in its opening five-days.
The movie, which also stars ORLANDO BLOOM and GEOFFREY RUSH, toppled third TERMINATOR movie T3: RISE OF THE MACHINES, and kept SIR SEAN CONNERY's new comic book adaptation THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN from the top of the charts.
Gentlemen raked in a meagre $23.25 (GBP14.5 million) over the weekend, which is almost half Pirates Of The Caribbean's takings during the same period.
T3 fell to third place with a disappointing $19.6 million (GBP12.25 million) second weekend - but it was enough to take the movie's 12-day tally past the $110 million (GBP68.75 million) mark.14/07/2003 09:17
