Deaths Mar Record Bonnaroo Festival
Two deaths marred the third annual BONNAROO FESTIVAL in Tennessee at the weekend (11-13JUN04), as attendance soared to 90,000.
An unidentified woman died of an apparent drug overdose on Saturday (12JUN04) morning - just hours after a 20-year-old Michigan man lost his life in another reported drug-related incident.
The deaths are the first in the short history of the festival, which this year (04) featured headliners DAVE MATTHEWS + FRIENDS, BOB DYLAN, WILCO, TREY ANISTASIO and THE DEAD.
Festival spokesman RICK FARMAN says, "We never want something like this to happen."
Rocker Matthews didn't want to dwell on the deaths, instead highlighting the overall fun atmosphere of this year's (04) event.
He says, "It's the first festival in America to be this successful, if for no other reason than celebrating music. People come and hang out in the middle of nowhere to smell each other's funk and listen to great, eclectic music from all corners of the industry."15/06/2004 13:35
