Death Row Records Faces Receivership

LATEST: Rap mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight's Death Row Records label is set to go into receivership, after he failed to attend a hearing at a Los Angeles court on Saturday (01APR06). Knight had been ordered to attend the hearing to discuss his assets, after he lost a $107 million (GBP62 million) judgment last year (05) to LYDIA HARRIS - who claims she helped him start the label back in 1989. Last month (MAR06) Knight, who has been avoiding court, was informed the label would be seized, should he absent himself from another hearing. Death Row Records launched the careers of a myriad of stars, including Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. Lawyers for Harris and her ex-husband MICHAEL - a jailed drug dealer, claiming half the settlement as part of their divorce - are now requesting Knight be held in contempt and jailed until he participates in a rescheduled hearing. Lawyer Steve Goldberg, representing Michael Harris, says, "He's had his last chance as far as we're concerned." Meanwhile, Knight's legal representation Dermot Givens, who also failed to attend Saturday's hearing, is reluctant to comment: "We try our cases in the court and not in the press." A further hearing to finalise the receivership, and address issues of contempt has been set for tomorrow (03APR06).
