Davis Lover Accuses Estate Of Banning Biopic
MILES DAVIS' former love JO GELBARD has accused the Miles Davis Estate of refusing permission for a movie biopic about the jazz icon - because they own the rights to his music.
Gelbard, who dated Davis between 1986 and 1991, is furious the film industry has turned its attentions to soul legend RAY CHARLES in the smash hit movie RAY, but have ignored the late trumpeter, who was troubled by drugs, womanising and violence.
She complains, "I think it's terrible there hasn't been a film. He's been neglected.
"It's been 14 years since his death and you would have thought there would have been something by now.
"I have a feeling the estate has been approached and hasn't given permission. They hate me."
But she already has ideas on who could play the jazz giant, adding, "WILL SMITH's too tall. Maybe DON CHEADLE from HOTEL RWANDA."06/04/2005 14:02
