Darkness Shine At Brit Awards

Glam rockers THE DARKNESS have stormed the 2004 BRIT AWARDS in London tonight (17FEB04), picking up three awards for Best British Group, Best British Album and Best British Rock Act.

Other big winners at the glitzy ceremony at the English capital's EARLS COURT 2 were pop trio BUSTED, who were named Best Pop Act and Best British Breakthrough Artist and other double winners JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, who picked up gongs for Best International Solo Artist and Best International Album for his hit LP JUSTIFIED, and DIDO, named Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British Single for WHITE FLAG.

The Darkness frontman JUSTIN HAWKINS told the crowd after grabbing the Best Rock Act award, "It's a real privilege, a tremendous honour and a real achievement. I have to say we probably are the best British group."

DANIEL BEDINGFIELD was named Best British Male Solo Artist, but couldn't be in London to pick up the award, as he's still recovering in New Zealand after breaking vertebrae in a car crash there last month (JAN04). Instead, he accepted the gong live over the phone, but was hampered by a bad line. He told the packed audience, "I can't hear what you're saying, I just want to say thank you, can I do that?"

Eighties British pop sensations DURAN DURAN were handed an award for Outstanding Contribution To Music.

American R+B sensation BEYONCE KNOWLES, who was named Best International Solo Artist, wowed the crowd onstage at Earls Court performing a spectacular duet with hip-hop stars OUTKAST - mixing their hits HEY YA and CRAZY IN LOVE.
